Taking a Cue from Electric Sheep: The Rising Tide of the Printed Image in a Digital World - by Mrs Twig

Taking a Cue from Electric Sheep: The Rising Tide of the Printed Image in a Digital World - by Mrs Twig

With our iconic vintage-meets-avant-garde photography style, we are firmly rooted with one foot either side of the past and present. When it comes to choosing products for your wedding photography, we offer two choices set just as parallel in the form of printed albums and digital files.

Just a few years ago, the latter was the top choice amongst a wired generation. It had become the norm for images to languish on our phones and society seemed, in general, to have forgotten the the power of a physical photograph.

But, over the course of the last 18 months or so, and to the delight of photographers up and down the land, we’ve noticed a distinct shift back towards the printed image and, more specifically, photo albums. It seems more and more of us are taking a cue from Ridley Scott’s replicants and we are recognising the importance of tangible photographs once again (for those who don’t appreciate the sci-fi references, don’t worry, they are few and far between!)

Say I Do to Bold Bridal Boudoir

If you’ve been following us for a while you will know that we have broken ground with our unique boudoir photography, creating a style that is the perfect combination of timeless elegance and playful seduction. Our boudoir sessions are not overtly sexual, tacky or titillating, they are a representation of you, your body and your story, told through a celebration of femininity.

Clients were coming to us more and more for a boudoir shoot as a pre-wedding gift for their partner so we thought why not make these sessions even more special by offering a full bridal boudoir package - our classic boudoir experience, re-envisoned for the bride-to-be.

Introducing 'Vintage Gloss' by The Branch

Many of you who follow The Branch on social media will have noticed that over the last year or so more and more images taken with vintage film lenses have been creeping into your news feed.

Vintage film lenses are pre-digital, they are all manual focus and have manual aperture setting rings. But, enough with the techie stuff, basically, we’ve grown to love the very distinct look these lenses create as it fits perfectly with our retro vintage vibe.

Whole Lotta Love - by Mr Twig

Now I bet, even without reading any further than the title, you’ve guessed that guiding you through this blog is non other than your hero, Mr Twig.

I wanted to put a quick post together to talk about love. Specifically, how much I love a Love Shoot. See, the title makes sense now (and, coincidentally, is linked to my all time favourite band. EVER).

Love Shoots are our version of pre-wedding shoots. We just like to be different. The selection of images you see here are of the awesome Sam & Jay, set against the backdrop of the historical town of Shifnal.

Talking Techy with Mr Twig - Rews Gig Photography

Last week I had the opportunity to photograph up-coming female duo, Rews, at their sold out Birmingham show. If you’ve not yet had the absolute pleasure of the aural, pop-rock assault that is Rews then you need to a) finish reading this blog and b) click here.

On the night of the gig, Rews were absolutely phenomenal. I was blown away by the fullness of sound made by just two people on stage, and how close the live track versions sound to the album. But, hey, this is not a gig review, you came here for the photography right?

Mr & Mrs Hall's Shropshire Vintage Wedding Photography

When James & Danielle's original photographer didn't work out we were thrilled that they came to us for their Shropshire vintage wedding photography.

The wedding took place on Friday 13th October at the Park House Hotel in Shifnal and the day certainly lived up to its superstitious hype with a number of ill-fated events!

But, despite the hitches in getting hitched, it was an amazing day and, as you can see, James and Danielle's devotion to each other was written all over their faces.

To Blog, or Not to Blog... and Other Interesting Stuff

We love to blog at The Branch but, lately, we’ve been so busy creating our iconic vintage photography that we just haven’t had time to sit down and write something new.

So we’ve had a ponder and we’ve come up with some pretty nifty ideas, if we do say so ourselves!

It struck us that our most popular social media posts by far are our ‘sneaky peek’ images so, going forward, we’ll not only be treating you to more sneaky peeks than ever before via the blog, but also highlight reels, behind-the-scenes images and other bits and pieces from the majority of our shoots (subject to client consent, of course). This way you get to see more of the things you love and we can make regular blog posts with ready-made content. It’s a bit like having your cake and eating it (mmm cake).

Wedding Photography and the Price of Tomatoes - By Mrs Twig

Wedding Photography and the Price of Tomatoes - By Mrs Twig

Why is wedding photography so expensive? This is a question we get asked so often and it’s a good question, after all photography is just pointing a camera in the general vicinity of the subject and pressing a button, right?

Anyone can do it.

It’s a bit like asking your best mate who has just procured that tiny new micro-drill to perform a root canal. Saves a few quid so what’s the harm, eh?

Why I Don't Mind My Husband Taking Pictures of Other Women in Their Underwear - By Mrs Twig

Why I Don't Mind My Husband Taking Pictures of Other Women in Their Underwear - By Mrs Twig

As the wife of a boudoir photographer, I am often asked if I mind that my husband spends much of his time surrounded by women in their underwear. The short, and somewhat surprising, answer is no. Granted, it takes a little getting used to being confronted with images of half-naked women staring out at me from the office computer as I happen by - but there’s something more to these images than bare flesh.

I know what you’re thinking, what you’d say if you were in my shoes. If it were you the buxom blonde was staring out at from your computer screen. You’d be thinking ‘another woman who thinks she has to take her clothes off to succeed/get ahead/please her partner.’ Delete as appropriate. I know because that’s what I thought, initially (after asking my husband if he’d considered a career in landscape photography).
